Originally from Winnsboro, South Carolina, Steve now calls Lugoff, South Carolina home. After 20 some odd years playing Rock & Roll, Beach & Country music in areas such as Ft. Walton Beach & Niceville Florida & Sumter, South Carolina, Steve jumped on the Bluegrass band wagon nearly 8 years ago and has not looked back. Steve handles most of the front man duties on stage basically because we can't get him to shut up. Steve always has plenty to say. Steve is still looking for a nickname that the band agrees with. Here are a few he has come up with. "THE TROPHY HUSBAND" "MR. FABULOUS" "MR. ENTERTAINMENT" "THE HARDEST WORKING MAN IN BLUEGRASS". The guys in the group call Steve "THE TRUE MOUTH OF THE SOUTH". Steve is one of the founding members of "SLOPE VALLEY".
EVERETT "LEAR JET" "STONE COLD" LEAR....................GUITAR & VOCALS
From the Pine Ridge area near Hartsville Everett Lear's guitar ability and vocals are a great asset to "SLOPE VALLEY". His picking style is one of the cleanest you'll hear in acoustic performances anywhere. Everett performed with the Lear Brother's for years in and around Hartsville, South Carolina until the time he joined "SLOPE VALLEY" Everett performed as a Solo act for years. Everett calls Hartsville, (Pine Ridge) South Carolina home. Everett is also a founding member of "SLOPE VALLEY".
MARTY "THE MAESTRO" DRIGGERS................................BASS & VOCALS
Hartsville Native Marty Driggers joined "Slope Valley" in early 2003. Marty sings tenor for the group and is always in the middle of arguments on stage with Steve. Marty is quick witted and is never at a loss for words (just ask any JUDGE in the PEE DEE Region). Marty is a spokesman for RENO FEST (Hartsville's own Bluegrass event held every March). If his lips are moving he's probably talking about RENO FEST. He is the "9th WONDER OF THE WORLD". Marty is from Hartsville South Carolina. (Marty used to play with that group in the 60's called Peter, Paul & Marty.)
KENNY "HOUND DOG" CASSIDY....................................DOBRO & VOCALS
Kenny Cassidy from Chesterfield S.C. dropped in our laps in February of 2006 and has given "SLOPE VALLEY" a sound it wasn't expecting. Kenny is from Chesterfield, South Carolina. His aggressive style of "HOUND DOG" dobro is a delight to bluegrass crowds everywhere. (He brought the house down in Rockingham at Ford's Bluegrass Barn) Kenny also plays a pretty good guitar. Kenny has brought the sound of Slope Valley to a new level. He as well as the rest of the guys love going to bluegrass jams. Slope Valley couldn't have found a better guy to pick with.
RANDY "TOO TALL" or "TINY" LEAR "EVERETT'S LITTLE BROTHER"....................BANJO & BASS VOCALS (THE LATEST ADDITION)
Everett's little brother Randy is from Chesterfield South Carolina. He joined the group in May 2006. He is a talented musician and loves demonstrating his skills on Banjo, Guitar, Mandolin, Dobro and Bass. His bluesy style approach on the Banjo fits with the Slope Valley Style. Randy is the most likely member to keep STEVE in line on stage. Randy is quick witted and is an absolute pleasure to be around.
SLOPE VALLEY FROM TIME TO TIME SOLICITS THE TALENTS OF OUTSTANDING INDIVIDUALS SUCH AS ROCKY SPRINGS, CHET POLSON, MIKE IRVIN , ALLEN HINNANT, TOM PETERS, FAIRLEY GUEST AND JOHN BIGUM. WE WOULDN'T BE "SLOPE VALLEY" WITHOUT GREAT FRIENDS SUCH AS THESE.
